Potential changes for Scarborough/Brighton Kiting

WAKSA members may have seen the posts on Seabreeze recently about the City of Stirling’s Scarborough Beach Urban Design Master Plan.  Specific details of the Plan can be found on the Stirling website. Click Here

The current plan proposes the formation of specific ‘activity zones’ along the Scarborough beach front. The zones proposed in the Master Plan may impact on the availability of Brighton beach for kite surfing. Members will know that the Floreat to Brighton down-winder is one of the most popular runs in the metro area. WAKSA will be doing everything possible to maintain our access to Brighton as one of the premier wave riding locations in Perth.

In order to present a united and cohesive message to the City of Stirling, WAKSA is inviting all members to a meeting to discuss the proposed plan, its potential impact on kiting at Scarborough/Brighton; and precisely what message we want to present to the Council.

The meeting will be held at Scarborough SLSC, Wednesday 25th August 2010 commencing at 7.00pm. The club is located at 1, The Esplanade, Scarborough.

We encourage all local and regular Scarborough/Brighton/Floreat kiters to attend the meeting to voice their concerns, and have input into the message WAKSA sends back to the City of Stirling.

Watch out for posts on Seabreeze between now and next Wednesday night.

City of Joondalup Update

20/06/2010

As members will be aware, WAKSA has been actively engaged in the public consultation process regarding Joondalup's draft Beach Management Plan. We are seriously concerned about the negative changes the plan is proposing for two of Perth's best kiting beaches.
We have been advised that the City of Joondalup received approximately 4600 submissions as part of the process.

The Association organised for a leaflet drop to approximately 7000 houses in the Mullaloo area prior to the consultation process closed and met with the Mayor to discuss our concerns with the draft Beach Management Plan. We also made a formal submission to Joondalup outlining our concerns and suggested a range of alternative outcomes for the City to consider. Copies of the leaflet and the formal submission can be found on our website: www.waksa.com/documents.
